    Context

    Sydney Metro were developing a new metro rail project to connect Greater Western Sydney with the Western Sydney International Airport – a 23 kilometre railway that would create over 14,000 jobs during construction. Work on the business case for the project was underway.

      Solution

      • Hannover was engaged to manage the definition of key aspects of the new metro line’s concept of operations:
        • Business case development and advisory services (crafting project options for appraisal, developing the project’s operating hours, service plan requirements, travel times, rolling stock specifications, maintenance strategy and stabling requirements);
        • stakeholder engagement and coordination to necessitate evaluation;
        • project representation at key governance forums for the client.

      Outcome

      Hannover

      • successfully defined capacity parameters for the line, balancing frequency and rolling stock design to meet customer expectations on Day One while accommodating future growth.
      • managed the options assessment process for selecting the stabling and maintenance facility site, narrowing down from 19 options to the preferred site.
      • represented the project at governance forums and gained endorsement for the preferred option.

      The process resulted in the selection of an operationally robust site that met stakeholder requirements, contributing to the overall success of the project.
